Sorry I couldn't get to Ann's celebration yesterday I would've loved to have been there she was just amazing . My gran was Dorothy Lidstone and my great grandmother was also Dorothy Lidstone having married Tom ( of Lidstone Butchers in Kingsbridge) . She always kept in touch with my mum Dorothy Cooley (nee Baker, Dorothy Lidstone's daughter) and dad , Lawrence and when dad died always rang myself to see how my mum was . I visited her a couple of times down in Devon rummaging through our family history, stories and gossip appertaining to those past which we would never otherwise know and will be for ever grateful to her and Peter for the incredible archive that we will treasure . A truly lovely lady

We will miss Ann very much, for her knowledge of the area and it's history, her generosity in opening her home for Ledstone get togethers, her sharp mind and her wicked sense of humour, and of course her lemon curd! Rest peacefully Ann.

Dearest Lidstone Families, I am thinking of you today as you celebrate Ann's life. What an amazing legacy Ann and Peter created with their expansive family tree and all they contributed to the community both in the UK and overseas. Now they are together again, a great love and partnership. I am missing Ann and wish I could be with you. No more emails beginning "Darling Judi" or Xmas and birthday wishes. Such a lot of people Ann touched in her generous and loving way over many decades. A life to be proud of, wonderful memories to leave behind, many hearts warmed by Ann's spirit and presence. Ann Lidstone was an amazing person. To me she was a great personal friend and to all my family. I treasure the days we spent touring in south Devon, with her great knowledge of local history and people. Also, long phone calls updating me on the Lidstone-network. The international family organisation has flourished under her leadership and grown to be something hundreds worldwide are proud to be part of. A testament to her is that it continues to grow. My late husband, Chris, was very fond of cousin Ann - Chris’ mother, Mary, and Ann were first cousins. We saw her on numerous family occasions but I particularly remember visiting the farm when we were on holiday in Devon one year to see the puppies (1982?) and staying in The Loft for a week with our young son Charlie ( 1997?) Ann was so welcoming and made sure we had a fun time. She was an amazing person - so full of energy and always delighted to hear all the family’s news. She will be dearly missed.

Dear Ann, you were such a long-standing and generous supporter of the Museum for many years, from sharing your great knowledge of local history, to serving on our management committee, to those famous meringues provided for the annual volunteers' party. You will be long remembered and very much missed.

Many Good memories of Ann. Knowing her was an absolute treat. I always recall the Ledstone Farm Kitchen in the ‘70’s with the BBC radio on in the background. Ann and Peter made everyone feel welcome.

So sad to hear the news about Ann. She has been a great support to me over the last 20 years and I have enjoyed spending time with her chatting about local history. I will miss her.

Very sorry to hear of Ann’s passing, as we have been good friends for long times, especially living in Kingsbridge. She was such a stalwart of the Lidstone Family History Society that she will be sorely missed and remembered with affection. Kind regards to all her family.

We always looked forward to seeing Ann when visiting Devon and will miss her very much.

I have fond memories of my brief stay with Ann at Ledstone farm. She certainly made me feel very welcome. She (and Hugh) were of enormous help in developing my Devon Family History. My thoughts are with the family left behind.

A generous friend is the thought that springs to mind. Since meeting Ann when we did the snap shot book of Galmpton in 2000, she has been unstinting in sharing her vast knowledge and time. She was always kind and encouraging. I knew when I emailed a history question, she would send the answer. I will miss her friendship so much. Mazx

Dearest Ann, I've known you for 44 years and have so loved your wonderful friendship. When I first visited from Australia you were busy cooking and driving for Meals on Wheels and providing lovely B&B hospitality. Your first great care and love was always family and because of this, I always thought your family was very privileged. Your and Peter's generous hospitality was a gift to me. Over the years I enjoyed our long chats, great laughs and the fun times we had with your grandchildren. My family loved visiting you and so enjoyed the short time you and Peter spent with us in Australia. You were/are a gracious, generous, resilient, empathic and beautiful person. You cared deeply for community, family and friends. It is painful to imagine Devon without you. Thank you Ann for your precious and special self. You are deeply missed. Much love, Judi

Ann was a much loved and highly respected member of our community. Over the years she collected and documented a wealth of valuable, fascinating information on the history of this area, for which we will always be grateful. Ann was a great friend to my parents Kath and Ron Whiting. Kath departed in 2016 and Ron in 2021. They used to live in Kingsbridge before moving to Devizes. We met up with Ann and her husband many years ago when they visited New Zealand. We have spent many happy times with Ann prior to 2021 and we were almost lucky enough to see her last month. She was a great character and lots of fun. Fond memories, Sue and Keith Unsworth from New Zealand.

I have known Ann since I was born in Devon 80 years ago. My Brother, Chris, and I stayed on Peter & Ann’s Farm several times when we were children. It was a great treat, as we lived near London and loved our holidays in Devon. Over the years we have kept in touch, as my Mother and Ann were First Cousins, even though there was a big age difference. I always loved hearing about the Family’s history, which was so thoroughly researched, and recorded by Ann. She was so interested in every member of the very extensive family, of which I am privileged to be a member. My own family have visited Devon nearly every year of our lives, and we always looked forward to meeting up with Ann, and hearing all about, and meeting her own lovely family. She will be missed by so many people, including myself and my two Daughters, Kate and Luci. We had a wonderful couple of hours with her earlier this year, which we will always remember. We were able to look through many of the family pictures going back for several generations. It was fascinating. Rest in peace, dearest Ann xxx .
