I asked my sister Nina what her outstanding memories of Ann, ' Aunty Ann ' were and she came up with exactly the same as me!
Top of the list: Singing - well not so much singing as 'dee, dee, deeing' Ann's voice would travel from the garden, washroom, kitchen sink all the way up to us at Orchard House. We could have joined in had we known the tunes!
Fireworks: For bonfire night and a large collection of fireworks would be made and stored in an old tin trunk in the office. Ann would patiently let us, Rob, Nina and myself examine each and every single firework and not just once!
Letting us make the farm our own personal playground: We would play in the grain pit at harvest time, kicking the grain down onto the auger, mess around with sheep and tame lambs at lambing time, play endlessly in the granary with the old piano, ping pong table, Peter's old cow on wheels that mooed and then feed us the best meringues in the world!
Ann even let us use her garden as a short cut to the school bus when we could catch it up in Sandy Lane.
Ann played a huge part in our childhood. I have so many wonderful memories.
Thank you Ann. You were quite simply The Best and Ledstone without a Lidstone will never be the same again.
Much love
